BJP releases infrastructure vision document

BANGALORE: The BJP has promised that it would develop national highways at the rate of 20 kilometres per day if the NDA led by it is voted to power in the on-going elections. This promise was made in BJP’s vision document on infrastructure development for the country which was released here on Tuesday by NDA’s prime ministerial candidate L K Advani.

Among other things, the vision document proposes to take up 100 infrastructure development projects of national importance from different sectors with an aim to make the next century belong to India. Speaking to reporters after releasing the document, Advani said that the party had always believed that the country deserved infrastructure, both physical and social, that was second to none in the world and commensurate in quality and quantity for making 21st century India’s century.

Asserting that the release of the document mid-way through the election process was not a course correction or an effort to enhance its chances, Advani said that infrastructure development had been taken up by the party even when the NDA was in power and cited the example of its endeavour for the river-linking project.

Some of the major aspects of the document include, interlinking of rivers, completion of major irrigation and drinking water projects, affordable electricity to every home, every farm, every factory, addition of 1.2 lakh MW of power in five years, world class highways linking every city and pucca roads linking every village, to make railways more accessible, comfortable and safe, dedicated freight corridors connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, to make Indian ports among the best in the world, to make air travel more affordable, more comfortable and more universal, to consolidate the gains of the ICT revolution in India and bring its benefits to Bharat and to bring prosperity, employment opportunities and vibrancy to villages.

40 cities to have metro rails

According to the vision document, BJP proposes metro rail projects to 40 cities with a population of more than 10 lakh, besides developing pilgrimage centres of all faiths with world class facilities.
